Eternal Truth is Worth the Temporary Fight
This week I've spent some time on the riding lawn mower. I have a rather large area that must be mowed weekly during the warmer months, and it takes several hours a week to get it finished.
As I was mowing last night, a thought hit me: The grass looked nice where I had just mowed, but the grass will continue to grow and soon it will need to be mowed again.
In this temporary life, grass will always grow.
I then thought about the vegetable garden we are planting this year. It will look nice when we weed it, but the weeds will continue to grow and soon it will need to be weeded again.
In this temporary life, weeds will always grow.
The work can be exhausting, but it’s necessary.
I realized that, just like the physical work outside, what's good and true is worth the time put into caring for it.
In this temporary life, we will always experience tribulation (see John 16:33).
We don't stop mowing just because we'll have to mow again or stop weeding just because we'll have to weed again. We keep on keeping on.
Temporary tribulations are certain, but we can't give up on the battlefield because we know other battles will come. John 16:33 Jesus reminds us of this eternal truth: "These things I have spoken unto you, THAT IN ME ye might have PEACE. In the world YE SHALL HAVE TRIBULATION: but BE OF GOOD CHEER; I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD. "
Let's rest and take a break when we're weary from the fight so we don't ever get tired of the fight. Remember we are already more than conquerors through Christ; the victory is already won.
It can be exhausting, but let's put on the armor of God each day and keep on keeping on!
