How Quickly We Can Forget...
How many times do we try to fight the battle in OUR strength because we’ve temporarily forgotten He promised to fight for us in HIS strength?
This evening, my little boy and I were getting some things done around the house and he was helping me as I carried some things outside. The sun had gone down and it was dark as he held the door open for me. As I walked out onto the steps, I looked at him and said, “I will be right back, don’t worry.” I walked out into the darkness, put away what I needed to, and quickly returned to the front door. As I approached, I saw through the screen door he had tears in his eyes and realized he had started to cry.
Me: “What’s wrong, buddy?”
Him: “I thought you left me!”
Me: “I told you’d I’d be right back!”
Him: “Yeah, but it’s dark out there and I forgot.”
How quickly children can forget!
After a hug, he went on to play and was no longer worried.
As I thought this evening about that encounter with my son, I realized that all too often we experience the same thing with our Father God; how often His children can forget, too.
He loves us. He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for us. He freely gives us eternal life. He protects us and carries us through every storm.
He told us “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” That’s a promise.
Yet, when we face the darkness that surrounds us in this life, how many times do we tend to forget that promise and allow fear and worry to set in? How many times do we try to fight the battle in our strength because we’ve temporarily forgotten He promised to fight for us in His strength?
Have we forgotten that God said He would never leave us?
Wipe your eyes, dear child. God loves you more than you know. You aren’t forgotten, and you’ve never taken a single step alone in this journey. Even as the darkness surrounds us from all angles, our Father is working and moving in ways that only He can.
Trust Him…He’s got it all under His control!
