Keep Going...Don't Give Up!
How often have we unknowingly stopped just short of God's perfect plan for our lives and settled for the shallow waters, instead of the overflowing waters God has in store for us?
In my travels this week, I found myself up by one of the Great Lakes in the northern part of our beautiful country.
I was excited to stop and see the scenery, so I found a nearby beach and parked close (or what I thought was close!) to the entrance. This time of year most everything is closed down, so with the exception of a few other people, I was by myself.
I saw a sign that said “Beach” with an arrow that pointed down a long, winding path, so I started walking. The path was narrow, and I didn’t see anyone else for several minutes. Just when I started to wonder if the sign was a prank, I came around the corner and saw a small body of water in a grassy area.
The view was beautiful, but I thought to myself, “What a puny little lake!” I looked up at the horizon and realized the lake must be over the next hill, so after resting a moment, I continued down the trail.
As I crested the last hill, I saw the view I was waiting for: The waves of the lake crashing against the sandy beach. Even though it was cold and overcast, I was thrilled. I had finally arrived!
As I stood there looking out over the water, a thought occurred to me. Had I stopped at the small body of water before the last hill and thought that was all there was, I never would've enjoyed this breathtaking view.
How many times has life's journey been like my afternoon walk? How often have we unknowingly stopped just short of God's perfect plan for our lives and settled for the shallow waters, instead of the overflowing waters God has in store for us?
The small body of water was beautiful and had its place in my journey, but it wasn't the final destination…It was simply a stop along the way.
Do we allow discouragement to stop us, or do we continue on in the face of adversity? The road is long and hard, and we've all felt like giving up at times. We might even become complacent and apathetic about our location. While it's important to be content in all things, we can't give up and settle for ordinary when God has covered us with His extraordinary mercy and grace.
Keep your eye on the horizon. Don't give up, God has great things in store. The journey may seem long, but the final view will be worth it all!
Wow, I’m a short person with huge aspirations so I stay away from short. What a beautiful concept, God watching as we either stop short, or muscle on. I wonder if these are tests so he may best know how to use us. Let’s face it, if we’re on substack reading your piece, we are a part God’s army. But you know what, I believe he needs both types.....
I needed to hear this tonight. Thank you !!!
